In Blockbuster Summer of 2008, The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan and released through Warner Bros. made history. On Sunday, August 31, Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning performance as the Joker helped this Batman pass the $500 mil. mark at the US box-office and become the second most successful motion picture in US box-office history. (#1 is Titanic, #3 is Star Wars.) NOTE: The record books of course were bound to change and Avatar has surpassed both The Dark Knight and Titanic. Still, the performance of The Dark Knight topped every other film released in 2008.

Welcome to the Trailer Takes section of the Moviedozer Archive. The trailer reviews archived here are in the same format as they appeared when they were first published and are arranged here in order of release date for the film. The original poster art that accompanies each in most cases was the primary poster at time of release. By clicking on the posters, many will still link back to their original trailers.

We acknowledge that the art of the trailer is truly art with a purpose. Sometimes the art of the trailer is a terrific tease to an exceptional film and sometimes it’s just art, in and of itself. If it gets you excited, curious or interested and you buy a ticket, that would be where art blends into commerce. When the ticket you buy results in a less than satisfying time in your cinema, you can’t fault the editors and designers of the trailer. Moviedozer is indebted to the the folks at Apple Inc. who produce the Apple Quicktime Trailer pages. We’d also like to acknowledge IMPA.com and all of the movie studios for making their advertising readily available to the general public. And of course our thanks and appreciation to those who design the poster artwork that is such an enormous part of every movie’s marketing campaign and which adds so much to our own website.
